WRITER GUIDELINES
Birds Illustrated publishes articles of up to 2,500 words about
birds, wildlife art and photography. Guidelines for contributors
are available upon request.
Prospective contributors should
initially submit a detailed synopsis of each feature and a
sample of text for approval, clearly identifying the theme
they propose to adopt.
Articles on the following subjects are
most likely to be accepted for publication: studies of individual
species or bird families; profiles of bird artists and photographers;
birding areas in Britain and popular overseas locations; ornithological
history.
Commissioned articles should be submitted as a Word document,
either by e-mail or on a computer disk. The views expressed
by contributors are not necessarily those of the Editor or
Buckingham Press.
PHOTOGRAPHIC AND ARTWORK GUIDELINES
Illustrative material (photographs or artwork) should be submitted
as transparencies or on CD (300 dpi jpg or tif files). Images
on CDs should be given a name identifying the species or place
and a print-out of thumbnail images should accompany each submission.
Please
enclose sufficient postage and packaging to ensure material
is returned promptly and safely.
Photographs submitted for inclusion
in the Classic Images feature should be accompanied by a caption
detailing when, where and how the picture was taken, comments
about its artistic merits, details of interesting behaviour exhibited
by the bird, and finally, the technical information.
Every possible
care will be taken of submitted material, but responsibility
will not be accepted for safe return if sufficient postage is
not included.
